Hitachinaka Happenings

June 2021 Greetings to all of our faithful prayer and financial supporters. We want to start by expressing our thanks. Despite a continuing Ontario Covid-19 lockdown that has prevented most of you from meeting regularly as churches, we have sensed an increased interest in praying for Japan. While many churches and mission groups are struggling financially, we praise God for his steady provision. A few have had to cut back, but others have filled that gap. So, we are so thankful…

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

This month leading up to Christmas has been filled with some challenges, Covid-19 scares, and joyful celebrations. Despite all the hard parts, we are still extremely grateful for another year filled with God’s faithfulness. Oliver is continuing to grow and is pretty much an Energizer bunny…he just keeps going and going. It’s hilarious, exhausting, and beautiful all at once. His parents are exhausted, but that’s kind of the gig, right? We will try and keep this update brief and, as…

Hitachinaka Happenings

Greetings from Hitachinaka, Japan: We are back in Japan and more than settled in. Christmas is coming and Covid-19 is still in the air, but we are thankful that our Japan countryside does not seem to be affected to much degree. Everybody has a mask on, but masks were already a common thing here before Covid-19. Japanese have worn masks for years to fend off pollen allergies, protect neighbours from the common cold and for ladies when they don’t want…

This Pilgrims Progress…

The Kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about thirty kilograms of flour until it worked all through the dough. . . Matthew 13:33 In various settings I’ve been considering this and some of the surrounding parables–about mustard, treasure, pearls.  It seems that there is an invitation to consider the gradual, permeating way that God brings his kingdom to bear on the world. And the  power is in the yeast, not the baker, though…

They are on their Way!

Greetings again from Hitachinaka City in Northern Japan! The “Kathryn and Julia return to Japan” saga seems to be coming to an end. They both got their negative COVID tests back in plenty of time (this time) and will fly from Toronto Wednesday afternoon. PTL Julia will continue to study on-line “at” U of Waterloo, and Kathryn and I will ask God for some fruit! We have lived here previously, and already know some folks who might be interested in…

Weekly Update from Fleming’s

Greetings again from Hitachinaka, two hours north of Tokyo (Rob), and from Kathryn, still in Waterloo. Kathryn and Julia did not get their COVID test results back in the 72 hours required by the Japanese government as Rob did last month. Things have really changed in the last two weeks as tests done in Waterloo are sent to Toronto for processing, and a testing backlog has developed. So, they will try again. Tests will be on Monday, October 12th, with…

Flemings Transition to Japan

Greetings from both Hitachinaka City, two hours north of Tokyo (Rob), and from Waterloo (Kathryn): Rob made it to Japan having tested negative for COVID both before leaving Canada and upon arrival in Japan. Two weeks of quarantine is finished. Hitachinaka City has had less than 10 cases of COVID since February. Kathryn and Julia hope to leave Waterloo on October 10 for Japan.  The reason for this quick email update is to ask for prayer. Kathryn and Julia need to…

Fleming’s Update

To our friends, We have wanted to ask you to pray for us and have waited until we knew something specific and finally, we have it. To those who have been asking questions like, “Where are you now?”, and “When are you going back to Japan?”, thanks for asking! We would have responded sooner if we had an answer to both questions. To the first, we are still in Waterloo, Ontario. Nearly 6 months ago, we were planning a May…

Statement from

“..the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you:to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”                                           (Micah 6:8) The words are well known and easy to agree with but so often we as Christians fall short of living them out in a practical way. The past few weeks we as Christians and Canadians have watched the news in the USA and in Canada bring out into the open…
