Flemings in the Philippines!

On February 20th, we met our precious baby boy, Ethan Kai. We are very thankful for a smooth delivery and recovery so far, and for the peace that God has given us throughout this season. Ethan is a Hebrew name and means “strong”, and while Kai has various origins, in Japanese (海) it means “ocean”. We like how the ocean is a way that we see God’s strength in creation, and we pray that he would have a strong faith…

Flemings in the Philippines!

We hope and pray that you had a meaningful Christmas season as you celebrated the birth of our Lord and Savior. This past Christmas was extra special for our family, as Mia started to understand more of who Jesus is and had so much fun celebrating His birthday! As we move further into the new year, we’d love to share a little snapshot of what this semester looks like for us. Changes in Rhythms There have been a few changes…

Flemings in the Philippines!

We have recently completed the first semester of the school year and would love to share about it with you in this prayer letter! Overall, it was a more challenging semester, but we are thankful that we can honestly say that we felt like we were still able to thrive the past several months. Semester 1 Recap As you may recall, Grady received ACL reconstruction surgery in late July. Since our school year started in early August, he was starting…

Read the latest update from Jacob and Leidy Paul. They currently serve and work in Columbia, as church planters and they founded El Nido to help serve vulnerable pregnant teenagers.

Hitachinaka Happenings -Coming Home

Just before we left Japan, we asked our supporting churches and friends to pray regarding our transition. Specifically, we asked for prayer for a car, an apartment, and for our boxes shipped by sea mail via the post office(!) to arrive in a timely manner. The Lord answered “more than we could ask or imagine” with a car that meets our needs, and we are now “continuing together in one Accord”. This car enabled us to move quickly, and God led…

Flemings in the Philippines!

We have recently finished the 24’-25’ school year and would love to share some personal updates and ministry highlights from this past semester! Our Home God has truly blown us away with providing such a wonderful home for us. We love our new space and feel like it has really helped us rest. We love the fresher air and slightly cooler temperatures (even a degree or two makes a difference!) that come along with being in a more mountainous area.…

Hitachinaka Happenings

Greetings from Hitachinaka, Japan. At the end of September of this year we will be returning home to Canada, 33 years after our initial appointment to Japan in 1992. We will spend October to December, 2025 visiting with family, looking for an apartment in the Waterloo area, and setting said apartment up for the next step in God’s plan for us. After all these years in Japan, the only things we have stored in Canada is Rob’s fishing stuff! We…

Flemings in the Philippines!

Hi all!  Thank you again, for praying for our housing situation! This is just a short update on how things have progressed on the housing front. Some things to praise God for: Our landlord said that he would keep the security deposit, which is common practice in the Philippines even when lease agreements are fulfilled. However, he said that he wanted to help us out, and knew that as a young family, we probably needed more space. So he agreed…

Flemings in the Philippines!

Hi all!  Thank you so much for praying for our housing situation! Sometimes, God answers our prayers quickly! Shortly after sending out our most recent newsletter, we viewed a place that we think will be a great fit for our family. We have verbally agreed to sign the contract on January 25, and the move-in date is set for February 1. Please pray that things progress smoothly and that there will be no curveballs thrown at us while we prepare…

Semester 1 Recap: Coaching We are filled with joy as we reflect on semester 1 of the ‘24-’25 school year. Grady’s volleyball team finished 2nd at their ACSC tournament in Indonesia, while Brittany’s swim team also finished 2nd at their ACSC swim meet in Hong Kong. Hitachinaka Happenings

Christmas Greetings from Japan! 2024 has been a little different for us. We said goodbye to our remaining three parents this year: Kath’s dad in February, Kath’s mom in July, and Rob’s mom, who died in mid-November. Rob is thankful he went home to Timmins for a week this past August. Apart from fishing and picking wild blueberries with Timmins friends, the week was mostly spent eating those fish and blueberries with mom! Now we are the grandparents and are…

Hitachinaka Happenings

Greetings from Japan. We do not often get to begin a prayer letter by quoting a Discovery Bible Study friend of Kathryn’s professing, “I am a child of God” but we can this time. Mrs. Y, after 3 years of Bible with Kath says “My problems are all the same, but the way I deal with them has changed because of Jesus”. Praise God for this work in her life.A common question we field here is “Why are you do…
