Warm greetings from the Flemings

We are now settling into a cozy apartment in Waterloo, Ontario. We have begun a year home assignment, and are a bit overdue in thanking you for your prayers for us. In March, we asked you to pray over a rather long list of requests, and we need to make a new list because absolutely everything has been answered!

We are praying now that God will continue to work in the lives of those Japanese we have left behind at Hitachi Hope Church, as well as believers “adrift” from Oasis outreach in Hitachinaka, and still some others growing without our further input in Tokyo. We are trusting in Philippians 1:6.  ”being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.” We are also certain that because of your prayers, our transition from Japan to Canada for this next year has been a “path made smooth and successful” (Proverbs 3:16).

In our previous update, we asked you to pray about “a furnished two bedroom apartment in Waterloo”, so thank you; We have signed a one year lease for a completely furnished (right down to linens, towels, and extra light bulbs!) two bedroom apartment to share with our daughter Julia. We also wrote, “We need a car by May”, and we are now driving a very experienced 2002 Jetta. We have quite a few churches/family/individual supporters to touch base with over the next few months. Some have been so kind to ask if we need anything now that we are in Canada. Yes! How about more to pray about? It worked so well this last time, as even our little old bunny found a kind, loving new owner in Tokyo.

Pray for us as we travel. All of our supporting churches are in Ontario, but Ontario is bigger than most countries! Ottawa to Thunder Bay is nearly 1,500km and London to Timmins is 900km. We have churches to visit in those cities. Go “vintage “ Jetta go!

Pray as we retool and study as well. We are both taking this Home Assignment as an opportunity to become better equipped going forward to live and work in Japan, reach unreached people and disciple them to reach others in Japan. Kathryn is already enrolled in a computer course in Kitchener, and Rob will take a course this summer focusing on church planting in cultural context.
