Welcome to the summer edition of our newsletter. This newsletter will include June, July, and August as we take a break for the next few months. The next installment will come in September. There is a lot to tell you about, so we hope you take a few minutes to get caught up.
JUNE SCHEDULE
June 1 and 8 – We have the last two installments of our series, The Script: Embracing a New Story. The last week of the series is also the last week for this session of Life Groups. Groups will restart in September with a 10-part series on the Book of Ecclesiastes. June 1 is also our monthly time to celebrate Communion.
June 15 – Father’s Day. Matthew Burkholder is bringing the Sunday morning message
June 22 – We are having a special baptismal service this Sunday. Following the service, we will be having a church-wide fire drill. Stay tuned for further information.
June 29 – Celebration Sunday. Following the service is our Congregational Meeting. This is when we receive the audited financial report, and affirm the people on the slate for Board, Board Chair, Elder, Treasurer, and Clerk.
ANNUAL REPORTS
The Annual Report will be ready to pick up on June 8. The Report offers a snapshot of the ministries of Village Green as they report on the year while projecting into the year ahead. Make sure to grab yours when available.
SPIRITUAL RETREAT
Pastor Jon is on his Spiritual Retreat from June 9-21, 23-24. This is a time for prayer, reading, reflection, and preparing the sermon and event calendar for the next year. Please be in prayer for discernment as he senses the Spirit’s direction for messages and relevant sermon series.
JULY-AUGUST SCHEDULE
Our summer series this year is Summer Samplers: Passages That Challenge and Inspire. The series looks at passages that often prompt deep reflection and introspection. They broaden our theological horizons while at the same time fuel a deeper personal transformation and belief. They can also provide comfort and guidance and a more profound understanding of the character and nature of God.
The last Sunday in August is a Celebration Sunday. If you are considering taking the next major step in your journey of faith with Jesus, why not consider being part of this service?
SUMMER CAMPS
This summer Village Green will host two camps:
Forest Cliff Camps July 7-11 and Adullam Camps Aug 4-8. The church has scholarships available for families needing financial assistance for students to attend. If interested, please pick up a form in the foyer or contact the office at office@villagegreenchurch.com for a digital version.

THEOLOGY JAM
New content has been added recently. In one episode, Matthew and I (Jon) discuss the similarities between the first century and today. This conversation is significant in recognizing that many of the challenges we face today are the same ones faced by the early church. We also recently interviewed Scott Stein, the Founder and Director of the ministry, Prepared to Answer. This conversation took a meaningful turn with a profound question that challenged Scott and the ministry. It is bound to challenge you as well.

KEEPING A PROMISE
In the previous newsletter, I teased the potential of leaving a chapter of my latest, Revelation from 30,000 Feet: Reclaiming the Most Abused and Misused Book of the Bible. When people suggested that I put the series on Revelation (January-March 2024) into a book, I initially thought it was a crazy idea. It has now become a labour of love and something I feel God is encouraging me to complete.
Since this is the final newsletter before the summer break, I have decided to leave you with two of the opening chapters of the book. These have been through two editors and will likely see a third.
