August Newsletter Highlights – Village Green Community Church

As August unfolds, we find ourselves in a season of both enjoyment and anticipation. Summer offers opportunities to slow down, spend time with family and friends, and appreciate God’s goodness in creation. At the same time, we begin looking ahead to the rhythms of a new ministry season, with fresh opportunities to grow in faith, serve one another, and welcome new faces into our church family.

At Village Green, we believe that following Jesus is a lifelong journey of Exploring Life by discovering more of who God is, growing in faith, and learning to love our neighbours well. We’re excited about the ministries, studies, and community events that will help us continue that journey together.

Whether you’re travelling, enjoying a well-earned break, or staying close to home, we pray you’ll continue to make space for God to renew your heart. Thank you for being part of what God is doing at Village Green Community Church.

SUMMER PICNICS

Mark August 16 and 30 on your calendar for the next dates in August for our summer picnic schedule. Bring a lunch and a chair. Water and cold drinks are available, as well as a BBQ. The August 30 hosts have a pool. The picnic starts immediately after the service until 2:30 pm. Check for the location at the Welcome Centre or during Sunday’s strategic communication. Hope to see you there.

LEADERSHIP BBQ

Following the August 23 service, we will be hosting the leadership BBQ. If you are on the Elder’s Board, Board of Directors, Staff, Life Group Leader, or Ministry Head, you are invited to attend. This allows us the opportunity to celebrate and encourage our leaders for their time and service.

There are a number of people in our church who have difficulty sitting in a service due to fragrance allergies. Please be mindful of those who are affected adversley by scents and perfumes.

We truly appreciate your consideration in this matter as it helps to bring us all together as one in worship and community.

LADIES CONFERENCE

Coming September 19, 2026 is the Village Green Ladies Conference, Joy in the Journey, with Guest Speaker, Denise Swaenepoel.

Tickets are sold after church in the foyer until August 9. Tickets are $65 each which includes coffee, snack and lunch.

Below is a promotional excerpt from Denise.

How do we experience a joy filled journey when life is difficult? How can we sense joy in the midst of chaos and challenging circumstances? Let’s discover together what it means to experience joy in our journey – in whatever we face.

As we explore our hearts and surrender our pain to God, He will change our perspective and open our eyes to experience His joy in the messiness of life. As we humble ourselves and step out in faith, we will not only begin to sense joy but we will become active in sharing joy with others.

This promises to be an inspiring day together so we hope to see you there.

MORE TO LOOK FORWARD TO

September will soon be upon us, and with it comes a number of ministries starting again after a well-deserved summer break. During August, there will be sign-up sheets in the foyer for the following groups:

Life Groups

Starting the week of September 20 is the next 10-week session of Life Groups. If you are interested in hosting or leading a group, are new to Life Groups, or want to move to a different group, sign-ups are available in the foyer starting August 9 or contact the church at office@villagegreenchurch.com

The series for this session of Life Groups is entitled Fingerprints of God: God, Creation, and the Wonder of Love. In this series, we’ll explore how the world around us points beyond itself to the God who made it. From the vastness of the galaxies to the complexity of life itself, creation reveals not only God’s power and wisdom but also the depth of His love for us. Together, we’ll discover that the fingerprints of God are everywhere and etched into the beauty of nature, woven into the story of humanity, and ultimately revealed in His desire to know us and be known by us. As we journey through Scripture, we’ll see that we are not accidents of chance, but beloved creations, carefully formed by the hands of a loving Creator.

The Gospel of John

Starting Sunday, September 20, is the next 10-week course being offered by pastor Jon, who has taught the Gospel of John in an academic setting since 2004.

The Gospel of John offers a unique portrait of Jesus, weaving together theology, symbolism, and compelling narrative. This course will help you better understand its message, historical background, and enduring significance. Come and experience the journey through one of the Bible’s most beloved books as we explore John’s unique portrait of Jesus—his signs, teachings, and invitation to abundant life.

The course comes with a full set of notes and access to all PowerPoints. The cost of the course is $75. Classes will run from 6-8 pm. Meeting room to be announced.

Space is limited, and you need to register by September 6th. Sign-ups will be available in the foyer beginning August 9, or contact pastor Jon directly at leadpastor@villagegreenchurch.com.

Alpha

Alpha is being offered for a 10-week session beginning Sunday, September 27. Matthew Burkholder will once again host, and sign-up sheets will be available starting August 9.

Whether you’re skeptical, curious, returning to church after many years, or simply looking to deepen your understanding of Christianity, Alpha is designed for you. Every session includes refreshments, a short engaging video, and honest conversation where every question is welcome and no one is put on the spot.

The class will run from 7-9 and the meeting room is yet to be determined so stay tuned for that announcement. For further information you can contact the church at office@villagegreenchurch.com

REVELATION UPDATE

Beginning August 10, my latest book is part of a “Delve All Genre” discussion group consisting of 900 analytical readers – comprising biblical scholars, literary hermeneutists, historical theologians, and cultural researchers. This 4-week discussion of my book will evaluate and discuss how the book maintains structural cohesion of apocalyptic literature, pastoral intent, and contemporary ethical teleology when freed from modern sensationalist abuse.

Please pray for this review of my book as it is daunting to think of the number of scholars who will be dissecting the book and its merits. Regardless, the reason the book gained their attention in the first place is exactly the reason why I wrote it. Thank you for those who have supported my writing and for those who have posted reviews online.

Thank you for being part of our Village Green family. We look forward to worshiping, growing, and serving together in the weeks ahead. Until then, may God’s grace fill your heart, His peace guide your path, and His hope inspire you as we continue Exploring Life together.

Blessings,
Jon Korkidakis
