This Week at Village Green – May 14, 2021

Welcome to the weekly update from Village Green Community Church. We are back after a two-week break and have a number of news items and updates to share for the coming weeks. Enjoy!

New Series – Heaven

Opening the door to the wonders of Heaven

Our next sermon series, Heaven, begins May 16th. Heaven has been the subject of art, literature, philosophy, and even prophecy for centuries. The biblical picture presents Heaven in all its wonder and glory, depicting an eternal home beyond our wildest dreams. Hope you will plan to join us for this inspiring two-part series.

The Gathering – Coming Sunday, May 16th – Don’t Miss It!

Our next online community GATHERING is scheduled for May 16th (This Sunday!) and will run from 11:15-12:15. If you are part of our online community and want to meet and get to know others then why not take this opportunity and sign up. You can let the office know by contacting us at office@villagegreenchurch.com.

The Gathering is set up in groups of 8 so it’s easy to connect with one another. Remember to also use the new links that will be sent to you just prior to the Gathering (either Saturday or early Sunday). Lastly, the cutoff for letting the office know is today (Friday the 14th), at 3:00 pm.

Our focus question for the Gathering revolves around the topic of heaven. “How does knowing the existence of heaven help us to live faithfully in the present?”

Coming May 31st – Information Night – Statement on the Current State of Affairs

It has been a year like no other. The COVID pandemic has not only altered the cultural and social landscape, but also the church and its ministries. The pandemic has also exposed various and conflicting opinions and views on how the church should be responding to government lockdowns, attendance restrictions, and information on vaccines and their efficacy.

We’ve been inundated with conspiracy theories, Q-Anon, social media rants, and a flood of media streams that have created a cauldron of conflict and confusion.

As the pandemic continues to affect our lives, the Elders felt it necessary to have a dedicated evening to answer a host of questions concerning the position of Village Green at this time. Questions such as:

Our Mission and Vision Statements
  • Why does Village Green continue to abide by government restrictions and lockdowns when some churches are fighting against them?
  • What about conspiracy theories, Q-Anon, and other agencies (even other churches) that are promoting a different script than the one in the popular media?
  • As Christians, what is Village Green’s responsibility to the larger community?
  • Does Village Green see the lockdowns as a form of persecution?

These and many more questions will be answered in an attempt to make clear our position as a church. The presentation will be prerecorded but will go live on the evening of May 31st at 8:00 pm EST.

If you have a question you would like addressed, you can send it to the office at office@villagegreenchurch.com. We will be accepting questions until May 21st at noon, so make sure you get them in before the cutoff.

Thank You for Your Prayers

Spiritual Retreat

I was away for my yearly Spiritual Retreat time and want to thank the many of you who told me you were praying for this time away. The yearly retreat time is such an important time not only for me personally but for the church as well. Besides being a time of hearing the Lord’s voice and being spiritually refreshed, it’s also the time in which the preaching calendar is planned for the upcoming year.

I thought I would give you a bit of a teaser of some of the upcoming series that have been planned. The calendar at present is set until August 2022. Here is s sneak peak.

June 10 to August 22 – Stories that Move the Heart (A look at some of Jesus’ parables and their impact)

August 29 to September 12 – Why Do I Feel Like This? (The affects of the pandemic on our health and well-being)

September 19 to November 21 – Believe 101 (A series on the fundamental tenets and key components of the Christian faith. The series will launch our Fall Life Group session. It is also a perfect series for inviting someone to learn more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus)

Me at the Parthenon

That’s it for this week.
Thanks for being part of Village Green Community Church.
I hope you were blessed through this update.
Stay safe and stay healthy.
