This Week at Village Green – February 19, 2021

Here we go again! After a period of restrictions and lockdowns we are back to 30% capacity allowance at church beginning this Sunday (Feb 21). If you would like to attend please let the office know so we can be prepared for your arrival. The office email is office@villagegreenchurch.com

As a reminder, we are still under pandemic protocols of masks and physical distancing.

We Need Your Voice!

If you are involved in Kid’s Connection, whether as a parent, worker, or teacher, we need to have your voice as we attempt to make the best decisions for this ministry.

We have sent out personalized emails with the survey and I have attached the link below as well. Please take the few minutes to help us help you. We want to make sure we are delivering the best we have to offer to your children in a way that is effective and timely. Your kids are too important to us so we need to have your voice as we weigh the best options.

Something to Lift You Up!

This week we received a delightful email from Rob Hueniken. If you don’t know Rob, he has been involved in everything from stage design to technology at the church and is a very creative fellow. He has written a song that he wants to share. Below is Rob’s description and reasons for writing it.

Being locked down has me thinking about people who are separated from others – missing them, and wishing they were close. So I wrote a song called “I’m with you” and created a music video. It is a tribute and an encouragement to everyone as we conquer Covid and reimagine a world with more kindness, where people matter more.

El Nido, Help Us Build the Nest

We want to feature one of our missionary partners this week, Jacob and Leidy Paul, who are in Armenia, Colombia. They have officially launched a campaign to buy a building for El Nido, their ministry to young pregnant moms, as well as other ministry initiatives.

Their Help Us Build the Nest campaign is looking to raise funds and they have produced a video and information site that you can access with the link below. Your partnership, whether in prayer or financial support, will go a long way in helping them meet the needs of young women in their community.

Coming March 1: The Book of Acts

An interesting side effect to the pandemic has been a robust conversation (or in some circles, arguments), about the nature and purpose of the church. Questions like, What is the makeup of the church and what role does it play in the society in which it is placed?

Starting March 1st at 7 EST

It is these questions and many more that we hope to answer as we take a deep dive into the book of Acts, the book that recounts the birth and early years of this institution called the church.

The series will start on Monday, March 1st at 7:00 pm EST and will run for 12 weeks. The hour long series will run on YouTube and you can grab the notes at www.jkorkidakis.com.

Stay tuned for further links and info coming next week.

Lent

February 17th was Ash Wednesday which is the official start to Lent. Lent is a period observed by Christians as preparation for Easter, involving fasting and penitence. It is observed for 40 weekdays from Ash Wednesday until Easter.

Although it is not a mainstay in many evangelical churches, it is a practice that dates back to the apostolic period and was formalized at the Council of Nicaea in 325 CE. We mention it here simply as a reminder or “spiritual placeholder” in your life. Easter is fast approaching and Lent is one way of reminding us of the significance of the Easter season by calling us to fast and pray.

Why not consider fasting these next 40 days from things like junk food, pop, social media, or television, as examples of possible things you could give up. And if you do, remember, fasting is meant to enhance your prayer and devotional life as you look forward to the miracle of Easter.

Correction – Youth Ministry

We stated in last weeks update that we would be making an announcement on February 21st concerning the Youth Ministry. The update will be given a week later on the 28th instead. Our apologies for making you wait an additional week.

Coming Sunday, March 21st!

Mark your calendar and plan to join us for this special Sunday presentation where we are giving a “State of the Church” address. As our budget year is coming to a close (March 31st) we have a number of updates to announce that include new initiatives and financial report.

I will be joined by Al Vanderlaan, Chairman of the Board Directors, as we discuss the church and the vision for the future. You will hear the outcome from our Leadership Day in January as well as other updates that I’m sure will be encouraging to hear.

Don’t worry if you think this sounds like a “church meeting on a Sunday morning”. I can understand the sentiment but it will be anything but that. We will still have our worship time and a message. The interview with Al will not only be informative, but inspiring as well.

Until next time,
Stay safe, stay healthy, and keep praying for our church and the many who call it home.

Blessings;
Jon Korkidakis
