This month our theme for our grades 1-5 is Jam Session. It is all about building the better beat together. That means our focus is on teaching our kids about cooperation. Cooperation is a big part of our world. Quite often most of us are put in situations where we have to cooperate with one another.
I know at my workplace I definitely do. Being part of a staff team means that we work both independently and together on certain things. Especially with Christmas coming up we are talking about Christmas stuff happening at the church and when this season comes we all have to team up to make our Christmas stuff happen. Even in my regular schedule, I have to use cooperation. A large part of my position at Village Green is working with volunteers. In order for Sunday School or Youth to happen cooperation is definitely needed and at Village Green, I have some of the best volunteers ever. They help make each Sunday impactful for the kids. It is truly a blessing.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says “9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: 10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” King Solomon takes time in these verses to address cooperation. He reminds us that when it comes to working two are better than one. Working as a group is always better than working alone. You get to enjoy the community, encourage each other when there is a challenge you must face, and support each other through the job. Verse 10 hints at this with the example of someone falling down. When one falls it shows true love to help them get back up. Whether that is a friend in school who is struggling with an assignment or with one of their classes. Cooperating together could mean helping them get that assignment done or study for that test. If you work maybe a coworker didn’t meet the workplace standard, we should be showing love by helping them do better and succeed the next time.
This is why cooperation is so important in our lives. We all need help at one point or another in our lives. I am sure many examples of those times are coming to your mind now. Hopefully, as you are thinking about a time you needed help you are also able to think of that person who helped you. Let’s be people who add cooperation to our lives. Be the light in our world and lead by example to our kids. Over the rest of this month make time to share stories of when you have cooperated with others or when someone has cooperated with you to your kids. Let’s set the example for them to see that two working together is truly better than one alone!
Blessings,
