Village Green Update – January 8, 2021

Welcome to the first official update for 2021. As a New Year dawns may we look forward with hope, faith, and expectation for what God will do as this year unfolds. There are many reasons to be discouraged and dismayed but our hope lies elsewhere, in the sure foundation that is found in Christ.

This blog post has plenty of new updates so hope you take the time to stay informed of all the happenings at Village Green Community Church.

Frustration

The dictionary defines frustration as “the feeling of being upset or annoyed, especially because of inability to change or achieve something”. I’m sure that is what many of you have been feeling the last number of weeks as our live stream has been acting more like an unruly toddler than a mature adult. I wish I could give you a snapshot of our technical team when the livestream suddenly acts like Elvis and decides to leave the building!

We are as frustrated as you are and the problem has us consequently working hard to find the culprit. It was very disheartening last Sunday to watch half the church exit the live stream and not return. We want it corrected so we never see that happen again.

We do thank you for your patience and ongoing commitment and will keep you up to date on the technical progress. As an aside, we are also looking at other service options that will improve our ability to deliver our services when needed. In fact, if we continue to experience problems this coming Sunday, we are looking at pre-recording services. If we move in that direction the chat would still be available on Sunday mornings while guaranteeing that the service is streamed without interuptions.

New Sermon Series and Life Groups

Starting this Sunday is a new series and the next session of Life Groups. The series is The Future Me, and will run for five weeks. The series description is below:

THE FUTURE ME!

Where do you see yourself in one year, two years, or even five years? Is what you’re doing today getting you to where you want to be? In this series, we explore the spiritual and practical steps to guide you to where you long to be.

The series will look at what happens when we get stuck, or when change is a challenge, or when fear paralyses us from taking the next step. If you want to join a Life Group or want to know more, you can contact the church at office@villagegreenchurch.com!

Virtual Soup Sunday

Our next online gathering for soup will be January 17th at 11:45 following the Sunday service. You can register by calling the church at 519-473-5505 or by email at office@villagegreenchurch.com.

Kids Connection Survey

As we plan for 2021, one of the areas we need in terms of feedback is Kids Connection. If you are a parent we would love to hear how we can support your family and your children during this time. We really need your constructive feedback and the survey will take about 5-10 minutes of your time. Thanks so much!

You can grab the survey here

Tax Receipts

Tax Receipts will be available in the upcoming weeks. Tax receipts will not be available for pick up at the church. This year they will ONLY be available either by email or regular mail.

Please contact envelopes@villagegreenchurch.com to direct them to mail or email your receipts to you. It is very important that the church has your current address. Please email any address changes to envelopes@villagegreenchurch.com.

As a reminder, you can use the above link to give an offering through e-transfer, as well as using the PayPal portal on our website, or dropping off a cheque in the church mailbox.

Monday Night Study

We will be announcing shortly the next instalment of our Monday night Bible study series. The previous studies have been How to Study the Bible, and The Major Seven (a survey of the seven most important chapters in the Bible). You can grab the notes from these studies at www.jkorkidakis.com and the teaching videos on YouTube here.

Leadership Retreat and Visioning Day

On January 23rd, the Elders, Board of Directors, and Staff will be meeting to discuss a vision plan for this year. The year ahead has many challenges, and we are gathering together early to discuss and plan accordingly. It will be a time of deciding where we need to focus our resources and energy as a church and how we can best serve the needs of our community. Please be in prayer for the team as we discern the will of the Lord and the leading of the Spirit of God.

In closing, thanks to each and every one of you who continue to call Village Green home. We have been blessed by your willingness to serve, give, and be the examples of Christ’s love to many in our community. The church IS alive and open and remember, the Kingdom of God is never in crisis, despite what may be going on all around us.

Blessings for a Spirit-filled and empowered 2021!

In Christ;
Jon Korkidakis
