Dale Mackness

Elder

“I did not become a Christian until age 24 so I missed the joy and wonderful experience of growing up in an evangelical church. Janet and I were married just a few months after my conversion and I felt called to return to school to study theology a year later. I graduated from Emmanuel Bible College in Kitchener at age 29 and became a pastor in Hamilton for 12 years followed by 9 years in London. We were blessed with 5 children and 7 grandchildren. Some of my work involved community service including service with Promise Keepers. I also was able to start back part-time pastoring for 7 years as an English Ministry Pastor in a Chinese Alliance Church prior to coming to Village Green in 2009.
I appreciate the inter-denominational flavour of our church as I have always enjoyed fellowship with pastors and leaders from many denominations. I believe that God has gifted me with the gifts of help, pastoring, hospitality and giving. I am involved in the Prayer Ministry, Men’s Breakfasts, Men’s Tuesday morning Bible Study, Soup Sunday, Benevolence Ministry, Community Care, Ark Aid, and Life Groups.”

Jennifer Charlton

Elder

“My name is Jennifer Charlton and I am passionate about the Lord and His working in us! I love His Word and I love His church! I came to know the Lord when I was fifteen and then was baptized a year later. I live happily with two other women in wonderful Mt. Brydges. When I came to London in 1974 to help start a new Christian school, I joined Village Green Community Church. I think I have done just about every job available in the church: Sunday school teacher, Sunday school coordinator, deacon, chair of the deacons’ board, day camp Bible teacher, choir member, soloist, Alpha meals, started the women’s group, usher, helped with janitoring and so on.
It is my belief that the church is God’s main way to help us “Love God, Love Others and Change the World. As an elder, I believe I will have opportunities to get to know others better as we help each other along on the journey of faith.”

Jason Snelgrove

Elder

“I have attended Village Green for over a decade, recently as Chaplain of Community Care. I sensed the call of God to grow in ministry after serving as Chaplain in Nursing Homes at various locations throughout the city, I knew that God wanted me to continue to grow and do something in Ministry other than caring for the elderly. He wanted to work with the abandoned and forgotten. Working in Community Care I gets to see God at work and join Him in what He was already doing!
I’m proud that Village green has built connections within the Westmount community and developed stronger connections with Ontario Works and Inter-Community Health where we assist in benevolence. I hope to continue to grow the ministry at Village Green with attention to our outreach in the community. I have truly seen God act in miraculous ways, I believe the best is yet to come for us!
I live in the community with my wife Dawn. We met in 2014 and were married by Pastor Jon Korkidakis. Dawn joins me in partnership in ministry, particularly as she teaches our youth at Village Green monthly and also works on check-in downstairs. Dawn teaches Early Childhood Education at Fanshawe College and doubles as a faculty advisor. She occasionally teaches with the school board as an Early Childhood Educator. We both live with my stepdaughter Katherine in London where she attends a Medical Sciences program at UWO. My father (George) is retired and an active member of Village Green. He works on our Maintenance Team.
My life verse is: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

Robert Pereira

Board Chair

“I have lived in London for 34 years, and just completed 20 years at my current employer working as an IT Manager. I have been attending Village Green Church for a little over 8 years.  I became a believer in Jesus Christ in 1997 and began studying the Bible. I haven’t been able to stop ever since. I have led a life group at VG Church and currently, work on the sound team. I welcome the opportunity to work with other believers in helping this part of the body of Christ be salt and light. I hope to be able to share knowledge about management and the technology I’ve gained over the years and also be challenged to grow in ways I’ve not yet considered.”

Ashley Zietsma

Board

“Hi, my name is Ashley Zietsma and I live on a hobby farm outside of Mount Brydges with my husband Chris, and our three kids Liam, Kylie, and Scarlett. I studied Biology, have an M.Sc. in Biotechnology, and have worked for the past 10 years as a Therapeutic Specialist in the pharmaceutical industry. Throughout my time at Village Green, I have served in Kids Connection, on the worship team, and as a life group leader.
Growing up in a Christian home I came to faith early in life, but it was after beginning to attend Village Green in 2012 that I really started to feel Jesus working in my life and made the choice to be baptized. Since then I have felt God leading me into a closer relationship with Him, and I am learning to let go and just have faith in all aspects of my life. Our church has played a crucial role in bringing me to where I am in my faith and re-igniting my passion for God. It will be an honour to serve on the board and help Village Green continue to be a church that touches lives.”

Don Shirley

Board

“I am a retired high school teacher, happily married to Jane, a proud father of three grown sons and grandfather of three wonderful grandsons. I came to faith early in life and it has been a fascinating journey through good times and very difficult times knowing that God has been leading me into a closer relationship with Him. I have been a member at Village Green for over thirty years and in that time I have been a deacon, a director, chair of the board, finance committee chair as well as coach of the baseball team. I have been thankful for the opportunity to serve in various ways over the years and would look forward to offering my experience and abilities on the board again. It is exciting to see what God is doing at Village Green and would like to have the opportunity to be part of expanding His Kingdom here in Westmount and beyond.”

Dave Hekman

Board

“I grew up in Toronto as the second youngest of five kids. I grew up in the CRC church but never really understood a walk with Christ until I was 16. I came to the realization that there has to be more to life than my own doings. This led me to Tyndale University College and Seminary where I received a degree in outdoor recreation. I am the proud father of four children and could not get through this without the amazing love and support of my wife Sarah. I have worked as an electrician for a local contractor for the past 9 years. I enjoy almost anything outdoors and am willing to try anything once.
I have a servant’s heart and look forward to serving in the church.”

Reneé Alcox

Reneé had the pleasure of growing up in Northern Ontario and this is where she developed a connection with nature and the love of fishing.  Renee landed in London in 1986 and graduated from Fanshawe College after graduating from the Social Service Worker Program.  Her passion for equipping individuals with developmental disabilities led to a past role of Special Needs Lead. When she is not spending time with her husband Brad, she enjoys knitting, fishing, and other outdoor activities. She is the proud mama to two adult children and a proud step-mother to four adult children.
God has done so many incredible things in her life and will continue to!  She is excited to be a member of Village Green Community Church and has been blessed to serve in Community Care and as a Life Group Coordinator with husband Brad.

Steve Ruddach

Board

Steve has been part of the Village Green Community Church family for the better part of 2 years. He and his wife Sarah have three beautiful children (Jacob, Aaron, and Emily).  They have lived in London together for over 15 years after moving south from Northern Ontario.  Steve was an active leader with Power to Change at Western University and still supports them to this day. He is also part of the Sound Production Team to support our worship team and church services which he carried over from his previous church experience.
“I’m proud to call London my home! Village Green very quickly became part of our home as well. After our first visit here, while looking for a new church, after having moved across London, our kids begged us to make Village Green OUR new church. We’ve never felt more welcome or more belonging compared to everywhere else.
I’m very excited to continue to do God’s work here, in our community and around the world.”
