My name is Jennifer Charlton and I am passionate about the Lord and His working in us! I love His Word and I love His church! I came to know the Lord when I was fifteen and then was baptized a year later. I live happily with two other women in wonderful Mt. Brydges. When I came to London in 1974 to help start a new Christian school, I joined Village Green Community Church. I think I have done just about every job available in the church: Sunday school teacher, Sunday school coordinator, deacon, chair of the deacons’ board, day camp Bible teacher, choir member, soloist, Alpha meals, started the women’s group, usher, helped with janitoring and so on.
It is my belief that the church is God’s main way to help us “Love God, Love Others and Change the World. As an elder, I believe I will have opportunities to get to know others better as we help each other along on the journey of faith.
I did not become a Christian until age 24 so missed the joy and wonderful experience of growing up in an evangelical church. Janet and I were married just a few months after my conversion and I felt called to return to school to study theology a year later. I graduated from Emmanuel Bible College in Kitchener at age 29 and became a pastor in Hamilton for 12 years followed by 9 years in London. We were blessed with 5 children and 7 grandchildren. After our daughter Heather died in a motorcycle accident at age 21 in 1997 God provided work in business from a Christian employer which was a big help during this difficult transition time for our family. Some of my work involved community service including service with Promise Keepers. I also was able to start back part-time pastoring for 7 years as an English Ministry Pastor in a Chinese Alliance Church prior to coming to Village Green in 2009. I still have my ordination credentials with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. I appreciate the inter-denominational flavour of our church as I have always enjoyed fellowship with pastors and leaders from many denominations. I believe that God has gifted me with the gifts of help, pastoring, hospitality and giving. I am involved in the Prayer Ministry, Men’s Breakfasts, Men’s Tuesday morning Bible Study, Soup Sunday, Benevolence Ministry, Community Care, Ark Aid, and Life Groups. My favourite recreational sport is golf and currently, I am volunteering at Arthur Ford Public School leading a weekly Chess Club. I have been happily retired for 6 years now.
I have attended Village Green for close to ten years, recently as Chaplain of Community Care. I sensed the call of God to grow in ministry after serving as Chaplain in Nursing Homes at various locations throughout the city, I knew that God wanted me to continue to grow and do something in Ministry other than caring for the elderly. He wanted to work with the abandoned and forgotten. Working in Community Care I gets to see God at work and join Him in what He was already doing!
I’m proud that Village green has built connections within the Westmount community and developed stronger connections with Ontario Works and Inter-Community Health where we assist in benevolence. I hope to continue to grow the ministry at Village Green with attention to our outreach in the community. I have truly seen God act in miraculous ways, I believe the best is yet to come for us!
I live in the community with my wife Dawn. We met in 2014 and were married by Pastor Jon Korkidakis. Dawn joins me in partnership in ministry, particularly as she teaches our youth at Village Green monthly and also works on check-in downstairs. Dawn teaches Early Childhood Education at Fanshawe College and doubles as a faculty advisor. She occasionally teaches with the school board as an Early Childhood Educator. We both live with my stepdaughter Katherine in London where she attends a Medical Sciences program at UWO. My father (George) is retired and an active member of Village Green. He works on our Maintenance Team.
My life verse is: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Born in Brazil, Davi immigrated to Canada in 2008, along with his wife Bruna, shortly after getting married in their home country. He was excited to see what God had in store for them in their new life together. They have three young boys (Nathan, Noah and Nicholas) who share his love for sports and music. They started attending Village Green in 2009, and are glad to call this community home. Davi studied Biology and has an M.Sc. in Cellular Biology, and has developed a career leading Operations and IT in the Health Industry in London. His passions are continuous process improvement, coaching teams and leading projects in a team environment, but the biggest one is music. At Village Green, he’s served by leading our Worship Team and helping with some IT-related activities over the years. Says Davi: “I am always amazed at the work God has done in bringing this vibrant community together to serve, to worship, and to be a light in the world – it’s such a pleasure and an honour to serve here, and to see God’s work happen right in front of your eyes. What a blessing to have people we can call friends, and that truly participate in our lives in a meaningful way, which is very important for us since we don’t have family here. It’s an honour for me to continue to serve and help God touch people’s lives through all of our ministries – loving God, loving others, and changing the world.”
I am a retired high school teacher, happily married to Jane, proud father of three grown sons and grandfather of three wonderful grandsons. I came to faith early in life and it has been a fascinating journey through good times and very difficult times knowing that God has been leading me into a closer relationship with Him. I have been a member at Village Green for over thirty years and in that time I have been a deacon, a director, chair of the board, finance committee chair as well as coach of the baseball team. I have been thankful for the opportunity to serve in the various ways over the years and would look forward to offering my experience and abilities on the board again. It is exciting to see what God is doing at Village Green and would like to have the opportunity to be part of expanding His Kingdom here in Westmount and beyond.
I have lived in London 33 years and am single. I have just completed 20 years at my current employer working as an IT Manager. I have been attending Village Green Church for a little over 7 years. I became a believer in Jesus Christ in 1997 and began studying the Bible. I haven’t been able to stop ever since. I have led a life group at VG Church and currently, work on the sound team. I welcome the opportunity to work with other believers in helping this part of the body of Christ be salt and light. I hope to be able to share knowledge about management and the technology I’ve gained over the years and also be challenged to grow in ways I’ve not yet considered.
Hi, my name is Ashley Zietsma and I live on a hobby farm outside of Mount Brydges with my husband Chris, and our three kids Liam, Kylie and Scarlett. I studied Biology, have an M.Sc. in Biotechnology, and have worked for the past 10 years as a Therapeutic Specialist in the pharmaceutical industry. Throughout my time at Village Green, have served in Kids Connection, on the worship team, and as a life group leader.
Growing up in a Christian home I came to faith early in life, but it was after beginning to attend Village Green in 2012 that I really started to feel Jesus working in my life and made the choice to be baptized. Since then I have felt God leading me into a closer relationship with Him, and I am learning to let go and just have faith in all aspects of my life. Our church has played a crucial role in bringing me to where I am in my faith, and re-igniting my passion for God. It will be an honor to serve on the board and help Village Green continue to be a church that touches lives.
