Statement from

“..the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you:
to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

                                          (Micah 6:8)

The words are well known and easy to agree with but so often we as Christians fall short of living them out in a practical way.

The past few weeks we as Christians and Canadians have watched the news in the USA and in Canada bring out into the open events of brutality, cries for help, and unimaginable grief as lives have been lost. We have been shocked at the images of George Floyd pleading to breathe, yet another black person whose life was taken in an unjust and evil way with no mercy shown.

The Leadership of Village Green believes it is essential and right to state that black lives do matter and we are totally against injustice and any form of the evil of racism. We believe that everyone is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with worth, dignity and the same freedom from fear so many of us enjoy.

We understand that at times we have been silent in this area and know there is much work for us all to do in our church and in our country. We need to commit ourselves to not looking away when those who are black are suffering and feeling isolated.

We, as the people of Jesus – his church, should be identified as promoters of justice, as people humbly walking and listening to those who are hurting and feeling less than equal and be at the forefront of reconciling the world. We believe this is possible because of the transforming work Jesus can accomplish in our lives. And, to those black persons in our VG community we want to affirm that we unequivocally believe your lives do matter. So, let’s continue to pray together that the truth of God’s love will continue to lead us forward in words and deeds towards establishing His kingdom here on earth. Let us continue to,

“…Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed…” (Isaiah 1:17)
