Village Green Community Update for May 14, 2020

Welcome to this week’s update from Village Green Community Church.

Leadership Retreat

The first night of our Leadership Retreat was held this week. Thank you for the many who have been praying for the leadership during this meeting. A major part of our discussions revolved around the dynamics for reopening and what that will look like for Village Green. We are continuing to monitor the recommendations of health and government officials.

We did adopt four-pillars as part of our Vision 2020. These are:

  1. Adapt (early)
  2. Communicate (often)
  3. Connect (deeper)
  4. Lead (missionally)

As a church, Village Green was able to transition to online services without any disruption because we were already in that space. These four pillars will help us continue to be vision-centric and mission-focused.

Prayer and Fasting for May

May has been designated the month of prayer and fasting. Fasting is not a common expectation in many evangelical churches but is an oft-repeated biblical discipline. One example of a way you could be fasting is to forego one dinner in the evening and devote that time to prayer. Below is a listing on the purpose of fasting.

To strengthen prayer; to seek God’s guidance; to express grief; to seek deliverance or protection; to express repentance and the return to God; to humble oneself before God; to express concern for the work of God; to minister to the needs of others; to overcome temptation and dedicate yourself to God; to express love and worship to God.

Fasting has been credited with many health benefits as well. As highlighted above, fasting is meant as a focused activity for prayer.

Kids Connection

Here also is this week’s link for the Kids Connection videos. Kids Connection videos.

We are also including a link to the previous week’s material in case you missed it. It has activity guides and resources to help you with quality material for your children. You can get them here.

Life Groups

Here are a couple of important updates/reminders:

  1. This session of Life Groups ends the 2nd week of June. We normally break for the summer and restart our groups in September. Some have asked whether groups can continue, considering its a vital connection for many people who don’t want to feel further isolated over the summer. If you are a Group leader, please ask if your group would like to continue past the June break. You can let the office know what your group decides.
  2. If you are a group leader please make sure you take attendance. It’s really important during this season to have a clear picture of how many are engaged in Life Groups. You can grab the attendance link here.

Ways to Give

A reminder that you can now use envelopes@villagegreenchurch.com to make e-transfers to the church, as well as the PayPal portal on our website: villagegreenchurch.com. You can also drop off your offerings through the mail slot at the church. It is checked on a regular basis.

Messages on CD

We recognize that some do not have access to the internet or to our live stream on Sunday. We are now making available the messages and/or series on CD. If you know someone who would benefit from this option please let the office know.

  1. Thank you Jon and all Village Green board members for your time, dedication and imput during this next half of 2020. We will know for certain where we stand as a church and as believers and it will be interesting to see how the community around us fares and also society as a whole.
